Australian Open: Tsitsipas Finds Way Pass Fritz To Reach Quarterfinals

Greek tennis player and fourth seed Stephano Tsitsipas had to pull the chestnut out of the fire to win and progress’s to his quarter final in Australia on Monday.

Tsitsipas came from two sets to one down to beat Taylor Fritz 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a thrilling encounter that lasted three and the half hours.

Prior to the tie, the two player who were former junior number ones, had met four time- two at the junior level which Fritz won and two at the senior level where Tsitsipas defeated the 24-years- old American.

The 20th seed pushed the French Open runner up last year as he took the first set and third set, but the Greek who was seeking a third time in the quarter finals of the Australian Open, rallied to win the game.

“I knew it was going to get physical. I kept reminding myself, get in there, do the work. Don’t give up. A little bit more patience,” he said. “It was important to have the crowd with me. I feel like they were backing me up when things got tough.

Tsitsipas also acknowledged the support of the crowd through our the game.

“It was important to have that kind of ambience today, and it paid off at the end.”

The Greek has a date with Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals after the Italian ended Australia’s dream of having a home boy go all the final and win.

Sinner moved to the next round of the tournament with a 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex De Minaur.
