Back For Good? Manchester United Legend Linked With Sensational Old Trafford Return

Reports suggest that a former associate of Manchester United is eyeing a comeback at Old Trafford in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

More Details

Amorim’s exit followed a frustrating 1-1 draw with Leeds United, a result that saw the club stall at sixth in the Premier League standings.

His departure concludes a 14-month stint plagued by growing internal tension and stagnant performance; during his time in charge, the Portuguese coach managed a win rate of only 31.9%.

In a brief 106-word official statement, Manchester United confirmed the departure of their manager, citing the necessity for a tactical shift to ensure the club achieves the best possible finish in the Premier League.

According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed a strong desire to return to Old Trafford as a caretaker. The Norwegian is reportedly willing to step in regardless of the contract terms offered by the board, as they begin the process of identifying a long-term successor.

Since his departure from Turkish club Beşiktaş in August 2025, Solskjaer has remained available. Many believe his return could provide a much-needed boost to the squad’s morale.

Meanwhile, Manchester United leadership is reportedly being patient in their search for a permanent successor, allowing a temporary coach to lead the team for the time being.

Darren Fletcher is set to take charge of Manchester United for Wednesday night’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Turf Moor. Having recently coached the Under-18s, the former midfielder has been called upon to provide stability during a demanding run of matches.

This interim move occurs as club executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox weigh up permanent options like Oliver Glasner. The board is prioritizing a manager willing to work within the current recruitment framework, following a disagreement with Ruben Amorim regarding transfer control.
