It ended goalless at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium between Napoli and Parma in a rescheduled fixture for the home side and despite the fact that they’ve now play three consecutive draws in their last three games, there was different emotions after the games.

More Details

The 2-2 draw against Inter Milan at the weekend felt like a positive result, unlike tonight’s result that felt like a loss (just like the 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona before the game agains Inter) thanks to the difference between the two teams, 3rd on the table versus the 14th placed team.

Furthermore, they’ve now dropped more points in the title, giving the current league leaders more gap in the title race as we enter the second half of the season with a six point gap between them while AC Milan is in between level on point with Napoli but with a game in hand.

It was a frustrating result as they saw an early goal ruled out for offside and missed several chances to go ahead. Furthermore, they were without their manager, Antonio Conte, who is serving one of the two match ban he received for his antics in the game against Inter where he was also sent off.

Hence, it was assistant coach Cristian Stellini who was on the bench and ultimately handled the post match interview where he tried to explain what went wrong for the team, pointing to bad luck, fatigue and missed moments as key factors behind the stalemate.

Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Stellini admitted that they lacked a cutting edge despite controlling long stretches of the match. “We were missing a bit of luck because there were so many situations in the box, but in none of them did we get the right bounce or the right moment,” he said.

Stellini also highlighted shortcomings in the first half, explaining that they were too slow and imprecise in possession, which limited their ability to create chances against a well-organised Parma defence and then fatigue was another recurring theme in his analysis.

He also stressed that Napoli are paying the price for relying on the same players every few days.“We’ve been playing for a long time with the same players and, every two or three days, sometimes you lack the sharpness that comes from recovering physical and mental energy.” He continued.

When asked about the mental side, especially with Inter’s result elsewhere, Stellini insisted his side must stay united. “We have to remain clear-headed and work on the mentality of the players and the whole team,” he said, noting that several absences continue to complicate squad management.

Then he also clarified the substitution of David Neres, revealing the winger felt pain again after coming on, and confirmed there is no clear timetable for André-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s return after a setback in his recovery who is expected to miss the weekend game against Sassuolo.

In a related development, Turkish league champions, Galatasaray have made an approach to Napoli over a potential loan move for their winger Noa Lang, but the proposal has been rejected by both the club and the player as it would be too soon for a player who was signed last year in the summer.

According to reports from Gianluigi Longari on X, the Turkish giants enquired about a temporary deal for the Dutch attacker, viewing him as a possible reinforcement for their wide areas but the formula has not convinced Napoli, who are not interested in sanctioning a loan move at this stage for the former PSV man.

Although, the player has not been getting plenty of minutes since his arrival, he is starting to find his feet at the club recent after providing the assist for Scott McTominay’s second goal in the draw against Inter but he would also like to play more because of the upcoming World Cup.

For Lang, he’s also not unconvinced by the idea of a temporary switch, preferring either to stay put or to consider alternative solutions that would offer greater stability and clarity over his long-term future and as things stand, Napoli have no intention of opening negotiations with Galatasaray on those terms.

This currently leave the situation effectively closed unless the structure of the deal changes significantly while for the Turkish club, they are also in the market for a midfielder with Inter’s Davide Frattesi being mentioned and that means that they will not want to spend all of their budget on one player.

With the transfer window still open, there’s still time for a deal to happen but things will have to change even as Napoli might be inclined to take a good deal as they’re also in need of reinforcements but can’t make any move at the moment because of a transfer embargo that requires them to sell before they can make any signings.
