First and foremost on their agenda is tying down some of their best players to a new contract in order to avoid the Ousmane Dembele-situation. The club delayed contract talks with the player until it became too late and now he is set to leave the club as a free agent after rejecting the club’s contract proposal.

The club wants to and seems to have made some crucial progress in renewing the contract of Uruguayan defender, Ronald Araujo and young midfielder, Gavi. Both players have their respective contracts set to expire in 2023.

Gavi has a €50 million release clause, a figure easily attainable for most English Premier League clubs, while Araujo has a €200 million release clause.

Barcelona on their part are set to include a €1 billion release clause into their contract to ward off interest in them and also show their importance to the team for the present and the future.

Gavi has already made 31 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring two goals and registering four assists. As for Araujo, he has built on a strong finish to the last season and has become an indispensable figure at the heart of the Catalan giants’ defence.

The 22-year-old has been an ever-present figure when fit and available, impressing onlookers with his aggression and leadership. Barcelona are inching closer to securing the long-term futures of the duo, according to Sport.

Indeed, it is claimed that the Catalans are hoping to tie up the contract extensions before the end of March, potentially after the Clasico against Real Madrid on the 20th.

Meanwhile…

Barcelona are readying a multi-year contract offer for Ac Milan midfielder, Franck Kessie and Chelsea defender, Andres Christensen ahead of a move to the club next summer.

Kessie currently receives €2.2m net from the Rossoneri and if he signs the deal on the table from Barca he will collect about €6m per year from them, but it is not yet known how much of that is a fixed part and how much is constituted by bonuses.

As for Christensen, Barca were closing in on a deal for the Denmark international and it seems the Catalans want to get everything wrapped up soon.

According to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans are offering a 5-years contract to the player and their coach, Xavi Hernandez sees the player as important to lifting the club to new heights.
