Ahead of the UEFA Champions League against Olympiacos, Barcelona are facing a major obstacle in their pursuit to have the Spotify Camp Nou Stadium ready to host the Greek Champions.

More Details

Barcelona have confirmed that their third fixture in the UEFA Champions League group stage will take place at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.

The match, scheduled for Tuesday, October 21 will see the Catalan giants host Greek side Olympiacos.

The club also provided an update on the situation surrounding the Spotify Camp Nou. Barcelona is continuing its efforts to secure the necessary administrative approvals that will allow the stadium to reopen in the near future.

In line with this process, the club is currently working on incorporating the amendments recently outlined by the Barcelona City Council, which were shared with the institution last week.

Recent reports suggest that Barcelona may postpone their much-anticipated return to the Camp Nou until the latter half of November, following the third international break. This potential adjustment would represent yet another delay in the reopening of the iconic stadium.

The reasoning behind the possible extension is largely financial. At present, the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc offers a capacity of 55,000 spectators, nearly double the number permitted in the initial phase of Camp Nou’s reopening.

The first stage at Camp Nou is projected to accommodate only 27,000 fans, a figure significantly lower than Montjuïc’s allowance. From the club’s perspective, maximizing attendance also means maximizing revenue, and this consideration is believed to be central to the decision on whether to wait before making the long-awaited return home.
