Barcelona Keen On Re-union With Manchester City’s Outcast Despite Financial Woes

Joao Cancelo

Barcelona’s transfer plans this summer seem to be prioritizing Nico Williams, but they haven’t forgotten other areas needing reinforcement. A central midfielder is still a target, and there are lingering questions about the futures of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

More Details

While Joao Felix’s return seems unlikely, reports suggest that Joao Cancelo’s homecoming to Barcelona is “practically a certainty.”

Manchester City are willing to sell him permanently for around €25 million. Cancelo has rejected lucrative offers from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and a return to Juventus in Italy.

Manchester City seems resigned to negotiating with Barcelona again, as Cancelo appears determined to return to Catalonia. Barcelona will likely push for a loan deal with a purchase option next summer.

However, Cancelo’s exact role at Barcelona is uncertain. He can play on both sides of defense, but Jules Kounde impressed at right-back last season. Additionally, the return of Alejandro Balde will create competition on the left flank, especially if Balde can recapture the form he showed in his debut season with Barcelona.

For João Felix who arrived at Barcelona on a discounted loan deal near the transfer deadline after rejecting a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, it seems a similar situation might unfold again, but this time, Felix seems determined to take control of his future.

According to reports, Felix has instructed his agent, Jorge Mendes, to secure a new club before July 27th, the date he’s expected to return for Atletico Madrid pre-season training. Neither Felix nor Atletico seem enthusiastic about a reunion.

While Barcelona is interested in having Felix back, they prefer another loan deal with specific terms that fit their financial constraints. This likely hinges on Felix prioritizing their offer over others. However, recent reports from Sport suggest that Felix is now actively considering alternative destinations.

The situation highlights the uncertainty surrounding Felix’s future. Barcelona’s hesitation to commit to a permanent transfer leaves him in limbo. While Felix desires a move away from Atletico Madrid, he’ll need to weigh Barca’s loan offer against other potential opportunities to determine the best path for his career.
