Barcelona Looking To Persuade ‘Dream’ Managerial Target To Camp Nou Next Season

Jurgen Klopp

Sporting Director Deco claims that Barcelona has not yet consulted with any managers over the impending vacancy created by Xavi Hernandez but President Joan Laporta has already said clearly what he is looking for in a new coach, a well-known and established tactician.

More Details

The Catalan newspaper Sport claims that either Barcelona will appoint a ‘top’ manager who has experience leading a team, or Rafael Marquez, manager of Barca Athletic, would be asked to lead the team in the upcoming season.

That would eliminate Thiago Motta and Michel Sanchez, two more recent additions to the top of the game, however they do claim that the Girona coach has the support of the board than anyone. Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel have declared themselves out of the running for the position, and Antonio Conte, the former coach of Chelsea and Juventus, is undoubtedly a quality manager but is not thought to match the role stylistically.

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, is still the “dream” coach, but they would need to convince the German to forgo a leave of absence after nine years in a row at Anfield. Although allegations surfaced that Barcelona had met with Hansi Flick, the former manager of Bayern Munich, such discussions are refuted, and the club is still interested in him.

They also don’t rule out the possibility of an unidentified candidate emerging. Barcelona has four months to find a replacement, but it’s likely that they’ll aim to close a deal soon so the new manager can work with them to reorganize the team.

According to the news, Imanol Alguacil, the manager of Real Sociedad—a very skilled coach but lacks the media clout of others—is presumably out of the running. The same would apply to Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, the former coach of La Masia and manager of Las Palmas; nevertheless, it would keep Julian Nagelsmann in the race as he is apparently open to a move to Barcelona.

Meanwhile…

When Cedric Bakambu, Pablo Fornals, and Chimy Avila arrived in Seville on deadline day during the January transfer window, Real Betis appeared to have a chance to start the season strong. However, their development can be halted by an injury to their main player.

Isco will be sidelined for at least a month after complaining of ankle pain during the weekend’s match against Getafe, according to Cadena Cope. The injury resulted in a tear of a thigh muscle. It’s awful news for Manuel Pellegrini, who has started Isco in every La Liga game this season save one for which he was suspended, since the Conference League is about to return.

The former Real Madrid playmaker will miss games with Cadiz, Alaves, Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid, and Dinamo Zagreb in the Conference play-offs. His availability against Villarreal on March 10th will depend on how well he recovers.
