Part of their inability to register players is a €150 million difference in La Liga’s interpretation of Barcelona’s income to their own. The Spanish League governing body is refusing to accept the capital gains on the economic levers.

It is alleged that it’s all part of the sale of 25% of their TV rights to Sixth Street. The US company reported an outlay of €517 million, rather than the €667 million Barcelona were counting on as income.

That difference was allegedly provided by Logskley Investments S.L., a company created by Sixth Street and Barcelona for the exclusive purpose of this deal with each owning 50% of the entity.

Barcelona then loaned €150 million of their own money to Logskley Investments, who in turn paid that back to Barcelona as part of the TV rights deal, thus falsely inflating the value of the deal.

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has already stated the club’s willingness to activate a fourth economic lever if the need arises.

Report emanating from Spain has it that Barcelona are planning to rescind the contract Frenkie De Jong signed with the club in October 2020 and they’ve already informed the player as they have found evidence of wrongdoings.

Barcelona believe they are in a position to initiate criminal proceedings to establish what happened in relation to the signing of his contract and determine where responsibility for the alleged irregularity lies.

They are claiming that the terms given to De Jong by the club’s previous board, headed by Josep Maria Bartomeu, had certain irregularities and now provide grounds for legal action against those involved.

There have already been talks between Barcelona and De Jong’s entourage, in which the current board stressed that the previous board may have carried out some irregularities and also warned that De Jong and his representatives may be involved according to the report.

Already, the club have been pleading with the player to reduce his salary and Evgeniy Levchenko, president of the Dutch players’ union has hinted in the past that De Jong could be a victim of extortion at Barcelona.
