Netherlands midfielder, Frenkie De Jong is the name being mentioned as the most likeliest to be sold as reports of an interest from Manchester United continue to fly around.
The 25-year-old has been a vital player for Barça since his arrival in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth €86 million. But there’s a feeling that he hasn’t really shown his full potentials at the club.
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has now confirmed the rumors making round in a recent interview ad he states that the club would consider selling players to meet their needs. “If our economic situation requires the sale of an important player, we are ready for that,” Laporta said in a recent interview with BarçaTV.
Barcelona are already in negotiations with Manchester United over the possible sale of De Jong this summer, as according to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans have already turned down an offer of €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons from Manchester United for the Netherlands international.
Both clubs are continuing talks and an agreement could be reached, with De Jong also giving a green light to a move to Manchester United after showing some reluctance early on.
Should he join the Red Devils, he would be reunited with Erik Ten Hag, his former coach at Ajax, where he played arguably, his best football, before his move to Barcelona.

He’s the second signing for the club after Antonio Rudiger joined as a free agent from Chelsea.
He was Named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2020-21 after joining from Bordeaux for €16m. PSG and Liverpool were also interested in his signature but the player’s desire to join with the Spanish side was the major deciding factor as PSG were ready to challenge Real Madrid for his signature.
