Journalist, Sique Rodriguez has given a damning assessment of Barcelona’s current financial situation. According to him, Barcelona could be on the verge of an ‘economic collapse’ if they fail to get things in order before June 30.
Barcelona will need to generate an income of above €500 million before June 30, if they are to meet their projected €765 million budget required to balance their books. Failure to do so could severely hamper the club’s spending power and ability to register new players heading into the summer transfer window.
Already, it’s being reported that the reason why they’ve failed to announce the signing of Andres Christensen and Franck Kessie on a free transfer is due to their dire situation.
The Blaugrana have a negative salary margin of around -€140 million, because the club have been making more losses than income in recent years. Laporta already has a plan to arrest this negative trend.
It was announced on Tuesday that there will be an extraordinary assembly in two weeks time, where it will be proposed that the club sell off some of its assets in order to increase its transfer budget.
The “Barcelona Licensing and Merchandising” arm of the club could be put up for sale, reportedly bringing in €200m on its own. The club’s television rights could reach €500m, depending on who buys them, and the length of the deal. The sales of a high profile is also on the card, with the names of Frankie De Jong and Memphis Depay being put up.
Also, there is the CVC deal which the club are said to be considering at the moment. Should they be able to get the approval for all these, the club will be able to continue the running of the club but it would mean that they will be able to generate less income for the future, hence the reason why Laporta is not so keen on the CVC deal.
Meanwhile…
According to sport journalist, Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona will pick the option of signing Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski over the signing of Leeds United winger Raphinha, should the club be left with the option of signing just one of the two players.

Lewandowski has been identified as the striker that would help elevate the team with his goal scoring prowess while Raphinha has been identified as the best replacement for Ousmane Dembele, should the French winger depart the club in the summer.
But due to their tight purse, the club may find it difficult to sign both players, especially since Leeds United were able to attain top flight football for next season, hence driving up the transfer fee for the Brazilian winger.
