Crystal Palace are set to sign Chadi Riad after a breakout season with Real Betis. The 21-year-old Moroccan defender impressed on loan from Barcelona, making him a target for several clubs. Betis had the option to buy him permanently for a mere €3 million, while Barcelona held a buyback clause for €7.5 million, but couldn’t activate it until next summer.

Crystal Palace agreed to pay Betis a €14 million fee for Riad, with a hefty chunk (€7 million) going to Barcelona due to their buyback clause. This means Barcelona will see a total profit of €10 million on the young defender.

Meanwhile, Betis are wasting no time finding Riad’s replacement. This marks their fourth deal with teams owned by John Textor, following Luiz Henrique’s move to Botafogo last year, Paul Akouokou joining Lyon, and the upcoming transfer of Abner Vinicius.

Memphis Depay’s time at Atletico Madrid is coming to an end. The Dutch forward will leave the club as a free agent this summer after just 18 months.

Depay is among several players Atletico are letting go in a summer clear-out. Despite his initial contract running until 2025, journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms there will be no automatic extension.

Earlier reports suggested Barcelona held a 50% sell-on clause for Depay, but their hopes of profiting are dashed with his free agent departure. Unrestricted by contracts, Depay can now freely choose his next club.

He arrived at Atletico in January 2023 for a modest €3 million, but despite occasional flashes of brilliance, he struggled to secure a regular starting role.
