Barcelona are currently in a financial mess, the Catalan club are battling the La Liga 1:1 salary structure cap not to forget the ongoing construction of the Camp Nou ground. Despite this, the club are pushing for an eventful summer transfer window. Their pursuit of Liverpool’s Colombian forward Luis Diaz is gradually slipping away due to the increasing competition and most importantly, the Reds hefty price tag on the player.

More Details

Initially, Luis Diaz was identified as Barcelona’s primary transfer target. However, the Blaugrana are reportedly facing the growing realization that securing his signature may prove to be unattainable. According to Catalan daily reports, the potential acquisition of the Liverpool winger has cooled significantly in recent weeks due to intense competition from other clubs and the substantial financial outlay required, particularly given Barcelona’s ongoing salary limit constraints.

Liverpool are expected to demand a minimum of €75 million for Diaz, a valuation they are confident of achieving given the reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr. Despite the previous summer’s pursuit of Nico Williams from Athletic Club, Barcelona’s Director of Football, Deco had already identified Luis Diaz as his preferred option and engaged in discussions with the Colombian winger’s representatives.

Recent reports from Sport indicate that Deco has re-established contact with Diaz’s camp in recent months, conveying Barcelona’s continued interest in securing his services.

Barcelona is acutely aware of their inability to match the considerable financial resources of Saudi Arabian clubs, recognizing that only a strong personal desire from Luis Diaz to play for the Blaugrana could potentially alter the current transfer landscape.

To date, Barcelona has limited their actions to making inquiries about the Colombian international’s current situation and the probability of him departing Liverpool during the summer transfer window. Diaz’s existing contract with the Premier League club extends until 2027 and he has yet to agree to an extension.

The La Liga leaders understand that Diaz’s potential availability for transfer could increase, particularly if Mohamed Salah commits his future to Anfield with a new contract. However, Liverpool’s anticipated asking price which is expected to surpass €75 million currently presents a significant financial obstacle for the Catalan club.

Consequently, the outcome of this potential transfer hinges on the decision ultimately made by Diaz and the final transfer fee demanded by Liverpool. While the winger has previously voiced his aspiration to play for Barcelona, the substantial financial incentives being offered by Saudi Arabian clubs could ultimately prove to be a decisive factor.
