Aston Villa are reportedly considering bringing back former central midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer at a reduced price.

More Details

According to former Villa scout Bryan King, this move could benefit all parties involved.

Luiz’s recent struggles since his transfer to Juventus, coupled with the likelihood that Villa manager Unai Emery was reluctant to sell the Brazilian in the first place, make a reunion appealing.

Luiz was a crucial player under Emery before his unexpected departure last summer, and King believes both the player and the club would be interested in working together again.

Despite facing Financial Fair Play pressures that led to the sales of Luiz last summer and Jhon Duran in January, Villa would likely be keen to re-sign Luiz if it’s financially feasible.

“Villa might try to re-sign him,” King told Villa News.

“Why not? I think he would have been kept at the club anyway had Villa not needed the money. He hasn’t settled in well at Juventus, and it might not hurt Luiz to make a Villa return.

“They would basically be getting him for half price after selling him previously.”

Luiz would likely remain a key player for Villa, despite the addition of Amadou Onana. Onana’s arrival in defensive midfield wouldn’t necessarily sideline Luiz, who could shift into a more attacking position.

However, given Luiz’s recent struggles at Juventus, Villa should also consider other options, as his immediate return to top form isn’t guaranteed.
