Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala has completed a transfer to Saudi Women’s Premier League giants Al Hilal, bringing an end to her brief spell in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

More Details

Oshoala, who joined Bay FC ahead of their inaugural 2024 campaign, made 38 appearances for the expansion club, scoring seven goals.

“Asisat has been an incredibly important part of Bay FC history, not only with her impact on the pitch but also through the energy, professionalism, and kindness she brought every day,” said Bay FC sporting director Matt Potter in a club statement.

“She is a world-class player and an even better person, and we are grateful for everything she contributed to our club in its first season.”

The Nigerian international was one of Bay FC’s marquee signings when she arrived from FC Barcelona Femení, but this season her minutes became limited, with just 12 appearances so far.

She joined a growing list of Africans in Saudi Arabia as the league continue to blossom.

The bigger picture

Oshoala becomes the latest high-profile NWSL export to Saudi Arabia since the Saudi Women’s Premier League launched in 2022 — the same year the Saudi women’s national team was formed.

Last year, Brazilian forward Adriana left Orlando Pride after their Shield and Championship double, sealing a record-breaking $500,000 move to Al Qadsiah FC.
