Bayern Munich Hold All The Cards In The Race For Serie A Breakout Striker

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Bologna are having a swell time this season in the Italian Serie A and this could have an impact on the team as other clubs are starting to take note of their players ahead of the coming transfer window. The Emilian club has been one of the dark horses in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

More Details

They currently sit fourth in the Serie A standings after beating Roma and Atalanta in their most recent league fixtures and dumping out cup holders, Inter Milan from the Coppa Italia in extra time.

The club will have a lot on their hands keeping their stars, from their manager, Thiago Motta to the duo of Joshua Zirkzee and Lewis Ferguson. AC Milan are looking for a new striker to succeed Olivier Giroud and Zirkzee has been linked with the Rossoneri in recent months.

However, they could face tough competition from Bayern Munich, according to reports. Zirkzee left Bayern Munich to join Bologna in the summer of 2022, with the Italian side paying around €8m for his services. It was money well spent, with the Dutchman bagging eight goals and four assists so far this season after a modest first year.

According to the report, Milan and Napoli are closely following the 22-year-old’s progress but in the summer, they could face tough competition from Bayern Munich. When the latter sold the player, they added a percentage on the future capital gain, as well as a right of first refusal.

All of this means that the German side can get Zirkzee for less money than the competitors. There is also a €40m release clause in his contract, which will be lower for the Bavarians.

In summary, a lot will depend on Bayern Munich’s strategy and whether they need Zirkzee or not. Milan are keeping tabs on the situation and also have other No.9 targets on their wish list, such as Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.

Meanwhile…

Juventus and Lazio are reportedly keen on signing Ferguson, but the midfielder certainly won’t come cheap. Ferguson has been at the center of Motta’s tactical jigsaw since last season, featuring as an attacking midfielder.

The Scotsman has caught the attention with his eye for goal and clever movement in the final third. He has contributed with four goals and three assists in his 17 Serie A appearances this season.

Therefore, Bologna have no intention of parting ways with the 24-year-old in the middle of what could turn out to be a historic campaign for the club, unless they receive an offer they can’t resist. According to a different report, the asking price for Ferguson should be around €25m to €30m.

The Rossoblu would register a major profit by selling the attacking midfielder, having signed him for just €2m almost 18 months ago, while the player is said to be prefer a move to England should he leave Bologna.
