Bayern Munich Not Giving Up On Athletic Club Ace Despite Barcelona’s Edge
Written by Oluwadamilola Olaleye
It was earlier reported last week that Barcelona have agreed to pay Inaki Williams full release clause to facilitate his exit from Athletic Club this summer after the Spanish international rejected them last season. The reigning LaLiga champions edged out Arsenal, Bayern Munich with the winger preferring them above any other suitors. Despite this huge development, Bayern Munich are not giving up on the chase as they are willingly to go ahead of the Catalan giant albeit offering a better payment package and he would be registered, a guaranty that Barcelona can give due to their LaLiga 1:1 salary discrepancy.
More Details
Barcelona are determined to bring Inaki Williams to Camp Nou his season. Although their pursuit ended in disappointment a year ago when Williams opted to remain in the Basque Country, Barcelona remain firmly interested in the 22-year-old winger.
Despite their continued efforts, negotiations are far from reaching a breakthrough, as Athletic Club are standing their ground and insisting on the full £51 million (€58 million) release clause to be met before any deal can be finalized at San Mamés, a fee Bayern Munich are well positioned to pay with a better welfare package for the player.

Barcelona’s attempts to finalize a structured deal for Williams continue to be hampered by delays over key details, raising fears that the transfer could fall through.
Despite the player’s strong desire to join Hansi Flick’s side, Athletic Club are expected to reject any offer that falls short of the release clause, and unresolved terms could still derail the move.

This uncertainty has kept the door slightly open for Bayern Munich, where Williams is reportedly Vincent Kompany’s preferred target. According to Bundesliga expert Christian Falk, the 22-year-old remains on Bayern’s radar, especially after their unsuccessful bid to sign Jamie Gittens who is now poised to join Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund.
According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, the next two weeks will be crucial in the race for Williams, as Bayern Munich and potentially Arsenal could step in if Barcelona are unable to register the player. Fresh developments from Spain have now added a twist that could energize both fan bases.
Cadena SER reports that Athletic Club are determined to block the transfer, arguing that Barcelona are still not compliant with La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, despite Joan Laporta’s public assurances. La Liga president Javier Tebas reportedly disagrees with Laporta’s claim, believing the Catalan club remains in breach.
As a result, Bilbao are prepared to take action, with the club president planning to escalate the matter to league authorities in an attempt to stop the move. Should this intervention succeed, it could significantly boost Bayern and Arsenal’s chances of landing the highly sought-after winger.
