Holding on to Nico Williams last summer was a big deal for Athletic Club despite Barcelona’s concrete interest although the Catalan giant didn’t have enough financial resources to pay his full release clause hence why the deal didn’t go through. He then opted to stay while been given a huge responsibility in the team, but this summer has put him back on transfer radars with Arsenal registering interest albeit more newly is Bayern Munich who are desperate to add another winger to their forward line as Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry’s departure looks more likely than ever.

Bayern Munich has reportedly intensified their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao’s left winger, Nico Williams as securing prime target Bradley Barcola remains uncertain. Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that recent meetings and discussions have taken place with Bayern seeing an advantage in Williams’ €60 million release clause.
However, a potential obstacle lies in the player’s high wage demands as he currently earns €7-8 million net per year at Athletic Bilbao. Despite the financial considerations, Williams is said to be open to a move to Bayern, indicating recent progress in negotiations.

Athletic Bilbao however are actively working to secure Nico Williams with a new contract and a significant pay raise which the player is open to. The Spain international currently earns €7-8 million per year, but Sport reports that the club is prepared to offer him around €10 million annually, a move likely influenced by their Champions League participation.
Despite Athletic’s efforts, Florian Plettenberg indicates that Williams has already lowered his initial wage demands. There are ongoing communications between Williams and Bayern Munich and the player is reportedly receptive to the idea of moving to the German club.
Nico Williams has garnered significant attention from several top clubs over the past year with both Chelsea and Arsenal previously expressing interest. According to The Athletic, Arsenal could still potentially pursue a move for Williams, contingent on their financial situation. However, it appears that Bayern Munich is currently the most serious contender for his signature, demonstrating a heightened level of commitment in their pursuit this time around.
