Benfica’s Rui Costa Completes Acquisition Of Rute Costa

28-year-old Portuguese international has signed a contract with Glorioso until 2024.
Goalkeeper Rute Costa signed a contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica until 2024 and is a reinforcement of the women’s football team.

At 28, the Portuguese international said it was “the most important step” in her career.
“It’s a very special feeling and the realization of a dream. I’m an ambitious athlete, and reaching this level is very gratifying. It’s the recognition of my work, I’m very happy”, reacted Rute Costa, to the Benfica TV (BTV) microphones.
At the time of signing the contract, the President of SL Benfica Rui Costa was present. The footballer addressed a few words in this regard, stressing the importance of having a figure who knows the sport to continue the project of women’s football at the Club.
“It’s important to have a person above us with this experience, someone I saw the play and admired. Being by his side is important, and special and it’s realizing that the Club is well structured with a person with absolute knowledge of what football is and what is necessary for development. It is very good for us players, as women’s football is growing, to have someone with the capacity and competence of the President”, commented the Portuguese international.

Along her path, the 28-year-old played for Casa Povo Martim, Boavista, Clube de Albergaria, and SC Braga, arriving at Benfica after defending the goal of Famalicão, an emblem she represented in the last two seasons and where in 2021/2022 season she played 25 games.
With her eyes set on what the Benfica season will be like, the goalkeeper was enthusiastic about the team’s participation in the Champions League, ensuring it is a great responsibility.
Currently called up for the final phase of the European Championship, Rute Costa has six caps for the National Team, where she shares the field with several, of her new teammates at SL Benfica.
