Nancy comes to Celtic with a strong resume from MLS, having led Columbus Crew to the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup titles, and earning the MLS Coach of the Year award in 2024. He also achieved silverware earlier in his career with CF Montreal, winning the Canadian Championship. Martin O’Neill will step down as interim manager following the home fixture against Dundee on Wednesday.
“I am so happy to be named Celtic Manager, it is a massive honour for myself and my family,” Nancy said in a club statement.
“I know the history, I know the values of Celtic and I know what is expected of me on this journey.”
Brendan Rodgers resigned from Celtic at the end of October following a poor run of form, including a 3-1 league loss to leaders Hearts—which put the club eight points behind—and an exit from the Champions League against Kairat Almaty. Former manager Martin O’Neill took over as interim boss and immediately revived the team’s fortunes, guiding them to four consecutive league victories that closed the gap on Hearts to just two points with a game still in hand.

Following a disappointing period that culminated in a Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty and a 3-1 defeat to league-leading Hearts, Brendan Rodgers resigned from his second stint at Celtic in late October with the club trailing the top spot by eight points.
The immediate appointment of former manager Martin O’Neill as interim boss sparked a dramatic turnaround: four straight league wins quickly narrowed the deficit to two points, giving Celtic momentum and a crucial game in hand.
“I want to add my heartfelt thanks to Martin for all he has done in recent weeks,” Celtic’s principal shareholder Dermot Desmond said.
“He was the man we hoped could bring us through these last few weeks positively.”
Sunday marks Wilfried Nancy’s managerial debut, as Celtic hosts Hearts.
