BK Häcken Appoint Elena Sadiku As New Head Coach After Trophy-Laden Celtic Spell

BK Häcken have confirmed the appointment of Elena Sadiku as their new head coach, with the highly rated Swede returning home after a hugely successful spell at Celtic to take charge of the reigning OBOS Damallsvenskan champions.

More Details

The 32-year-old has signed a three-year contract and succeeds Mak Lind, who guided Häcken to their first-ever Swedish women’s league title earlier this year. Lind also oversaw a memorable European campaign that saw Häcken eliminate Inter Milan before reaching the European Cup quarter-finals.

Sadiku’s arrival signals Häcken’s intent to build on their historic domestic success and growing European reputation.

Sadiku joined Celtic Women in January 2024 as the club’s first-ever female head coach and made an immediate impact. She led the Glasgow side to their first Scottish Women’s Premier League title, a landmark achievement that cemented her status as one of Europe’s brightest young coaches.

Her domestic success was followed by a breakthrough on the continental stage, as she guided Celtic into the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage for the first time in the club’s history. Those achievements earned her the SWPL Coach of the Year award.

Forced to retire from playing at just 23 due to injury, Sadiku transitioned swiftly into coaching and has since built an impressive résumé, holding roles at FC Rosengård, Fortuna Hjørring, Eskilstuna United, Everton U21s, and Celtic.

She is set to begin work with BK Häcken in early January, with immediate focus on preparations for the 2026 season and a high-profile European Cup quarter-final against Breidablik on 11 February.

Meanwhile, Celtic have acted promptly to fill the vacancy, appointing Grant Scott as Sadiku’s successor.

Scott brings extensive experience in Scottish women’s football, having led Hibernian to the SWPL title in the 2024/25 season, in addition to delivering a domestic cup double during an earlier spell at the club.

Celtic paid tribute to Sadiku for her historic contribution, praising her role in delivering the club’s first league title and Champions League group-stage appearance, while expressing confidence that Scott’s leadership and proven pedigree will drive the next phase of growth for Celtic FC Women.

Sadiku now returns to Sweden with her reputation enhanced, tasked with steering BK Häcken through the challenges of domestic title defence and continued European ambition.
