According to The Independent, Bournemouth are eyeing Arsenal prodigy Ethan Nwaneri as a successor to Antoine Semenyo, who is reportedly nearing a move to Manchester City.

More Details

While Nwaneri secured his future at North London with a long-term contract last summer, his playing time has remained limited. Despite appearing 11 times across all competitions this season, he has been named in the starting lineup only three times.

The 18-year-old’s involvement in the Premier League has been particularly sparse; all six of his league appearances have come off the bench. Notably, he hasn’t seen any top-flight action since Arsenal’s 4-1 victory against Tottenham in November.

According to The Independent, Bournemouth is interested in securing a loan deal for Arsenal academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri to replace Antoine Semenyo. Arsenal is reportedly in favor of this arrangement; while they are unwilling to sell the highly-rated youngster, they believe a loan spell would provide him with essential first-team experience.

However, the move currently faces a hurdle: Nwaneri and his representatives are not interested in a mid-season departure. The midfielder prefers to remain with the Gunners to contribute to their title charge and has expressed a desire to stay at the Emirates until at least the summer.

Should the 18-year-old decide to leave next season, his goal is to join a top-tier international club. Interestingly, Borussia Dortmund showed strong interest in him prior to his latest contract extension with Arsenal.

Last season served as his breakout year, where he clocked 1,378 minutes and earned high praise from Mikel Arteta, who called his performances “very impressive.” Much of that playing time came as he stepped in to cover for the injured Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

This season has been a different story, with his playing time dropping to just 446 minutes. This dip is largely due to increased competition following the signings of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke, which has limited his opportunities in the Premier League.

Despite being a highly versatile talent, the youngster has recently spent his time on the bench during league play. While Arsenal is open to a loan move, it’s understandable that Nwaneri prefers to remain part of the team’s intense title charge.
