After being tagged as one of the clear favorites to win the World Cup, Brazil bowed out of the tournament in a rather unconvincing manner. They lost to Croatia in the Quarter-final through penalties, after failing to break down the defense of the European country, ending another disappointing World Cup for the Selecao.

Brazil are now on the lookout for a new coach to take charge of the team, but they aren’t in a hurry as they want to appoint a top quality manager to take charge.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has now emerged as one of their candidates for the role. According to Sport, Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President Ednaldo Rodrigues will be in touch with Guardiola to hear from him about his plans.

The CBF are in no hurry to appoint manager and want to hear what former Barcelona coach has in mind in the short and medium-term. Guardiola, who just renewed his contract with the Cityzens until 2025 is said to be open to the idea, as it would present him with a new challenge.

There have been links between the two in the past after Guardiola left Barcelona and he could become the first non-Brazilian to coach the national team of the South American football powerhouse.

In the event that they manage to convince him to take the job, it will require even more talks and convincing for Manchester City to let their manager leave the team.

Should they manage to scale these hurdles, Guardiola will most likely finish the season with the current EPL defending champions before jumping ships at the end of the season as Brazil have no more games until then.

Meanwhile…

Current EPL table toppers, Arsenal are currently at a dilemma as to how to proceed after learning that they will be without the services of their Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus, who recently underwent surgery.

Jesus, who joined the Gunners from Manchester City at the start of the season was instrumental in taking the club to the top of the table ahead of his former team.

After sustaining an injury at the World Cup, Jesus is expected to be out for at most, three months and Arsenal will now have only Eddie Nketiah as the only recognized striker in the team.

For Mikel Arteta, there are several options, sign a striker during the January transfer window or move Gabriel Martinelli to a more central role and bring in a winger from the transfer window or even recall Balogun Folarin from his loan at French side, Reims. It’s being reported that the club is ready to back their manager significantly in the January transfer window as they look to win their first league title after the invisible team of 2003/04.
