The 25 year old has been identified as an attacking reinforcement by Magpies coach Eddie Howe who is growing frustrated at the lack of attacking reinforcements.
The Magpies had their initial bid of £40m for the Foxes number ten turned back as Rodgers made a joke of the offer.
Speaking after the 1-0 preseason friendly victory over Sevilla, he was asked about the midfielder’s possible departure to which he was careful not to give away anything.
“He’s still very much a player here. Naturally the players are sought after because they are talents. You see his performance, you see how happy he is and he’s not a player we want to sell.
“It’s not for me to put valuations on the players, it’s not my side, but that might just cover three-quarters of his left leg, that price. He’s a top player.”
Newcastle are expected to return with a new bid as they hope to secure a deal for the England international.
Meanwhile…
Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist have both agreed with Newcastle in their chase to bring Maddison to St James’ Park.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Brazil said: “He would be a good signing, don’t worry about that. He’s a top player.

“He seems to be overlooked in the England set-up, but when he’s on his game his assists are fantastic and he scores goals.
“Without a doubt he’d be a huge success at Newcastle.”
Ally McCoist added: “I couldn’t agree more.
“I like him. He’s a player who I really like, but I also think that Brendan Rodgers is absolutely spot on when he suggests that £40million isn’t anywhere near enough.
Maddison has been at Leicester City since 2018 where he has made 171 appearances and contributing 45 goals with an FA Cup triumph to show for it.
