Bruno Labbadia has been named the new head coach of the Super Eagles, effective immediately, according to a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF’s official X account revealed Labbadia’s appointment in an early-morning tweet on Tuesday.

The official statement from the NFF reads:
‘The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles.
‘NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said in the early hours of Tuesday:
“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

The appointment is with immediate effect.”‘
Labbadia’s shocking appointment means that he will oversee the Super Eagles’ performance in the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
On September 7, the Nigerian squad will host Benin Republic in the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Three days later, they will play their next AFCON qualifying game against Rwanda.
