The match started with high intensity, quickly testing both goalkeepers. Villa’s Emiliano Martínez kept out a shot from Martin Ødegaard, while David Raya made an excellent save to deny Ollie Watkins.

As the half progressed, Bukayo Saka became increasingly involved for Arsenal, but his attempts were either saved or blocked, and he sent a header wide.

Arsenal thought they had taken the lead 22 minutes in when Saka set up Eberechi Eze to score, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Villa remained resolute, and a strong run of play saw Declan Rice block a powerful strike from Matty Cash.

However, Cash broke the deadlock in the 37th minute, firing a shot through Raya’s legs after Jurriën Timber accidentally diverted Pau Torres’ cross into his path. Arsenal pushed for an immediate response before halftime, but efforts from Ben White and Rice were comfortably saved.

Mikel Arteta made two substitutions at halftime, and the changes immediately fueled Arsenal’s push for an equalizer. Leandro Trossard, one of the substitutes, was a key figure, narrowly missing two chances before finally scoring seven minutes after coming on, finishing after Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, Martínez, partially saved Bukayo Saka’s pass.

As the match neared its conclusion, chances continued for both sides, with Donyell Malen and Noni Madueke coming close for Arsenal. However, in the final seconds, Emiliano Buendía scored for Aston Villa amid a scramble in the Arsenal box, sending Villa Park into raptures.

This dramatic late goal secured Villa’s seventh consecutive win and moved them into second place in the Premier League table, just three points behind the leaders, Arsenal. The loss brought Arsenal’s impressive 18-game unbeaten run across all competitions to an end.
