Former United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) star Carli Lloyd is expecting her first child, she announced via her Instagram.

More Details

She went on to open up about her issues with infertility and experience pursuing IVF treatments in an article published by Women’s Health that same day.

“Soccer taught me how to work hard, persevere, be resilient, and never give up. I would do whatever it took to prepare, and usually when I prepared, I got results,” she said.

“But I found out that I didn’t know much about this world. I was very naive to think that we wouldn’t have any issues getting pregnant. And so it began.”

Lloyd went into detail about her difficult IVF process, something she and husband Brian Hollins turned to after struggling to conceive naturally.

"In retrospect, I wish I had been more educated about pregnancy and how to prepare for it, and that I looked years ago into the options I had for freezing my eggs," she said.

"I want to show other women that it’s okay to struggle. It’s okay to feel broken and to feel hopeless, but to never give up and to keep going.

"My story is currently a happy one, but I know there are other women who are facing challenges in their pregnancy journey. I see you and I understand your pain."
