Carlo Ancelotti Proposes Coaching Role For Luka Modric As Part Of His Backroom Staff Should He Desire To Retire At The End Of The Season

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

Legendary Real Madrid player Luka Modric is expected to depart the team at the end of the current campaign, or at least that was the assumption, but he may choose to stay with Carlo Ancellotti proposing a position for him in his backroom staff.

More Details

The reason is that Modric hasn’t played much this season and instead of starting major games, he’s been Carlo Ancelotti’s rotating option. All signs point to his leaving when his contract expires at the conclusion of the season, though it’s unclear where he’ll wind up.

Last season, Saudi Arabia showed interest in the 38-year-old, but it’s unclear if he would be amenable to the transfer at this point.

However, Diario AS has verified reports from The Athletic stating that, should he want to retire, Ancelotti offered Modric a position on his coaching staff at the end of the current campaign. The Croatian decided to turn down the offer right away because he believes he still has more football left in him. Right now, he intends to play for at least another year.

It’s obvious that Modric still has a lot of quality to give, even if Ancelotti doesn’t select him first this season. He will undoubtedly want to vent some of his fury about losing his starting position.

Meanwhile…

Both Hansi Flick and Thomas Tuchel have been connected to the Barcelona position in recent weeks, and both might have concluded the campaign at Bayern Munich. In Bavaria, the former is facing extreme strain, and his job security seems to be shifting daily.

Bayern is presently eight points from the top of the table, and Tuchel is considered a negative result away from the bench after losses to Bayer Leverkusen, Lazio, and most recently Bochum. Despite this, they plan to keep him on the team until the end of the current campaign.

That hasn’t stopped Bayern from contacting possible successors to see out the season in the event that they decide it’s time to part ways with Tuchel. Flick has reportedly rejected the idea, according to Sky Deutschland via MD, despite being named among players like Zinedine Zidane. He’s not going to be going back to Bayern until the season is out.

Flick has been making all the necessary moves to land the job in Barcelona; he is reportedly learning Spanish and has made multiple reports indicating that he wants the position. The 58-year-old recently switched agents to Pini Zahavi, who is closely associated with Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona. Laporta has been a fan of his since Bayern defeated Barcelona 8-2 in 2020, although he was far less effective leading Germany before to his dismissal.
