Carlo Ancelotti – Record Breaking Italian Manager Extends Real Madrid Stay

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

The most recent news out of the Spanish capital claims that Real Madrid has extended the contract of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti.

More Details

Ancelotti’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and for the last nine months, he has been strongly associated with the Brazil position. Brazil launched a charm drive for Ancelotti last season as concerns about his leadership surfaced after Los Blancos lost the league championship to Barcelona.

Carlo however rejected the offer from Brazil leaving open the prospect of staying at Real Madrid. Relevo claims that his hard work has won him a two-year extension and the club officially announced the extension until 2026 immediately after their story.

In the event that the season’s first half saw strong performance, Real Madrid intended to extend its offer to him in the early months of 2024. Los Blancos also maintained their spotless record in the Champions League, sitting seven points ahead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Internally, they also appreciate that Ancelotti has not bemoaned or used the injury crisis as an excuse and he has also benefited from placing Jude Bellingham in the best possible position.

Meanwhile…

Barcelona’s defender Marcos Alonso who hasn’t played much this season has joined the injury list yet again meaning that the Blaugrana won’t have enough depth to rotate when they go into the busiest part of the schedule.

The 33-year-old Alonso is experiencing a similar back issue as Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Barcelona convinced Alonso to get surgery to cure the problem, following the German goalie. The former Chelsea defender is awaiting word on the day and timing of his procedure.

Diario AS reports that he won’t be back until the beginning of March. It means he will miss the Spanish Supercup, a significant portion of their Copa del Rey run and at least the first leg of their Champions League match against Napoli.

With Alonso missing the last month due to the same back issue and having played fewer than 300 minutes this season, Xavi Hernandez is left with only Alejandro Balde and Joao Cancelo as his natural backups at left and right back, respectively.
