Carragher Insists that Raheem Sterling Should Not be Dropped

Former three lions defender Jamie Carragher has debunked calls by some fans that Raheem Sterling be dropped from his spot in the english team’s attack in favour of the less experienced Jadon Sancho or Jack Grealish. Carragher who spoke after the three lions’ victory against Czech Republic claimed that Sterling is untouchable because of the quality he brings to the English set up.
“I do not understand the clamour for Jadon Sancho to start. Who for? The nation is demanding Grealish, and how can Southgate drop Sterling after everything he has produced for England?” The former Liverpool player said.
England haven’t lost a game where Raheem Sterling has scored and the fleet-footed attacker has scored 16 goals in his last 37 appearances for the English team after failing to hit the net in his first 27 games.
He scored his first goal for England at a major tournament against Croatia in their opening game of Euro 2020 and was again on target when they defeated Czech Republic in their last group game to go top of the group.
Sancho according to Jamie Carragher is yet to replicate his club form when playing for the three lions and thus should start from the bench until he comes good for his fatherland.
“He [Sterling] has arguably been the best player of the Southgate era. Sancho is yet to replicate his club form for his country in such a way to justify replacing Sterling.”
Grealish meanwhile started in place of the self isolating Mount and made the most of his opportunity as he provided the assist that led to Sterling’s goal.
