However, despite his short-term mandate, supporters remain hopeful for significant squad reinforcements this winter. The Manchester United manager suggested that the club might bypass new signings, instead leaning on their current roster for the remainder of the campaign.
During an appearance on the Inside Carrington podcast, Carrick highlighted the depth of his squad, noting that many talented young players are currently gaining the experience necessary to succeed at the club.
“It’s an important thing – it’s difficult to put a gauge on but there’s certainly a feeling of it’s an unbelievable place to play football but it can sometimes take a little bit of adjusting, getting used to and that’s fine.
“It was the same for all of us, even when we had really, really successful teams – there’s an adjustment, an adaptation – that’s for me and my staff to help them go through that, shape them and have a big end to the season.”
Manchester United has yet to make any winter signings, raising concerns that they may slip further behind rivals like Liverpool in the Premier League.

During his tenure, Ruben Amorim faced significant backlash for his management of the squad’s youth, particularly for his frequent exclusion of Kobbie Mainoo from the starting lineup.
There is a growing belief that integrating Mainoo into the midfield would allow Bruno Fernandes to operate in a more advanced role. In this higher position, Fernandes’ vision and creativity could be better utilized to unlock stubborn, deep-sitting defenses.
Additionally, Michael Carrick—recently appointed as interim head coach—will be boosted by the return of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo from the Africa Cup of Nations. However, the challenge remains for Carrick to find the right formula to maximize their impact on the pitch.
