There is a strong expectation that the 48-year-old French coach will be appointed and in charge of the team by their match against St Mirren next Saturday.
The situation unfolded with interim manager Martin O’Neill confirming he is happy to keep assisting the club, although he believes the ideal solution would be to permanently hire a promising, newer manager. Separately, Nancy has emerged as the leading candidate for the permanent position, despite lacking prior experience managing a team in Europe.
Starting his career primarily in the lower leagues of France, Wilfried Nancy relocated to Quebec in 2005 to play for a university team. He transitioned into coaching, steadily advancing from amateur ranks to the CF Montreal academy and eventually their first team.

After Thierry Henry resigned in 2021, Nancy took over and led the Canadian side to a national championship. This success earned him the Columbus Crew job in Ohio, where he achieved significant victories, winning the MLS Cup in 2023, the Leagues Cup in 2024, and the MLS Coach of the Year Award.
His current assistant, Kwame Ampadu, has a prior connection to the Parkhead club’s director of football operations, Paul Tisdale (from their time together at Exeter City), and Tisdale is reportedly advocating for Nancy’s appointment.
Celtic is currently negotiating the compensation for the manager from the recently defeated play-off team, Nancy. The transfer fee is estimated to be between £1 million and £2 million. This potential new manager is known for his attractive, high-tempo style of play, which has attracted attention from various European clubs.
