Champions League: Jonatan Giráldez, “Barcelona Wants To Qualify As Soon As Possible”

Coach of defending Champions of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Jonatan Giráldez says his side wants to qualify for the quarter-final as quickly as possible ahead of their next group game against TSG Hoffenheim of Germany on Wednesday.

“We like to win every match, even friendly matches. And we want to try to mathematically qualify as soon as possible.” Says Giraldez during pre-match press conference ahead of the game against TSG Hoffenheim.

FC Barcelona Femeni defeated Huelva (0-5), Real Sociedad (8-1), and Eibar (0-3) in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola after its last group game win over Køge (0-2).

Giraldez said: “It will be a very similar match to the Real Sociedad game because of the type of play Hoffenheim plays, where they try to take the initiative. In all the matches we have seen they show the same intention, they try to create chances from possession and when they don’t have it, they intend to press as high as possible to recover the ball near your goal”

FC Barcelona with a maximum of six points seats at the top of Group C ahead of Arsenal, Hoffenheim, and Køge.

Giráldez opined that he will try to test more players depending on the outcome of the game.

He said: “It’s a time of the season when we are trying things out but injuries don’t allow us to do so many tests.

“Depending on how the game goes and the feeling during the match, we can choose to test players in different positions. You always have everything planned and it is the live game that tells you how to act. Normally we play against opponents who are closed in at the back. When you’re up against teams that want to take the initiative”.
