Chelsea Coach, Emma Hayes Becomes Fourth WSL Inductee

The most successful women’s football coach in English football was inducted into the Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) Hall of Fame on Thursday joining three others.

The former head coach and director of football operations for Chicago Red Stars of Women’s Professional Soccer in the United States, Emma Hayes (MBE) was formerly manager of the Long Island Lady Riders between 2001 and 2003, head women’s football coach at Iona College in New Rochelle between 2003 and 2006, and first-team assistant coach and academy director for Arsenal Ladies between 2006 and 2008.

Since joining Chelsea FC in 2021, Hayes has won four WSL titles in the 2015, 2017-2018, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 seasons.

She also guides Chelsea to two Women’s FA Cup and League Cup titles and 2020 Women’s FA Community Shield becoming the most successful English coach after guiding Chelsea FC to the final of the 2020/2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League, losing 4-1 to FC Barcelona.

One of the most outstanding strikers in the Women’s game, Kelly Smith was also inducted into the Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) Hall of Fame joining Fara Williams, Rachel Yankey, and Emma Hayes.

The former Wembley Ladies, New Jersey Lady Stallions, New Jersey Wildcats, and Boston Breakers forward had three spells with Arsenal FC Women and scored a combined 72 goals in 89 games for the London side.

She also scored 46 goals in 117 appearances for the English Women’s national team from 1995 to 2014.
