Despite the club’s concerning slide, which culminated in their “worst performance of the season” last time out, Chelsea are “happy” with the work Enzo Maresca has done at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea knew that a win over struggling Everton would have put them above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, so two months ago, they were getting ready to visit Goodison Park.

However, Maresca’s team lost three of their next eight league games after being held to a goalless draw that day, dropping them to sixth place, one point outside of the Champions League spots.
In what Maresca called his club’s “worst performance of the season,” Chelsea fell to the same team in the Premier League on Friday night after losing to Brighton in the FA Cup last weekend.
Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh gave Brighton, who had traded several players to Chelsea, a 2-0 lead at halftime. The latter then added a third goal after the interval.
‘Probably since I arrived that is the worst performance, especially in the moment we are in,’ Maresca said.
‘We are fourth in the league and winning tonight you can go one point from third and make the gap to the rest bigger and the performance is not one you want to offer so we are very upset and sorry for the fans that were here.
‘This is the worst moment since I arrived but we are still there and we need to finish in the best way.’

During Chelsea’s most recent loss, Chelsea supporters were clearly and loudly irate. They chanted for their former owner Roman Abramovich before many left the stadium as Brighton made it three.
Maresca’s future at Stamford Bridge has been questioned due to his concerning slump, but according to The Athletic, the Italian’s employment is secure for the time being.
The board is reportedly “happy” with Chelsea’s development under Maresca and thinks they are really ahead of plan, despite the fact that he was informed he wouldn’t likely qualify for the Champions League until the following season.
