Chelsea Retain Vitality Women’s FA Cup

After the failure of its men’s counterpart to win the FA Cup on Saturday, losing on penalties to Liverpool which sealed a third straight final defeat for them, Chelsea FC Women redeemed the image of the club with a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the final of the 2021/2022 Vitality English Women’s FA Cup on Sunday at Wembley Stadium, London.

The 2021/2022 Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) top goal scorer, Sam Kerr opened the scoring for the Blues in the 33rd minute.
The lead lasted for nine minutes after which Lauren Hemp evened the scoreline for Manchester City.
Erin Cuthbert in the 63rd minute restored Chelsea FC’s lead before Hayley Raso’s 89th-minute equaliser for Manchester City took the game into extra time.

Sam Kerr and her Chelsea teammates had the last laugh as the Australian forward converted the deciding goal in the 99th minute which ensured that Chelsea will retain the Women’s FA Cup it won last season when the team defeated Arsenal FC 3-0.
The win was sweet revenge for Chelsea after the initial defeat for the team against the same opponents in the final of the Continental Tyre Women’s League Cup.
Chelsea FC Women also completed a domestic double after winning the WSL last weekend.

Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert emerged as the 2021/2022 Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final player of the match after her scoring one of Chelsea’s title-winning goals.

With a domestic double in the bag and English dominance for Chelsea, the Emma Hayes side will hope to return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) to improve on this season’s feat of Group stage exit.
The London-based side will have to reenact the feat of the 2020/2021 season when the team reached the final of the Champions League only to lose 4-0 to FC Barcelona Femeni.
