Chelsea Set To Beat Arsenal To Ajax Star, His Move Not Expected To Affect Their Chase For Moises Caicedo

Written By Onyeka Daniel

Chelsea look set to beat Arsenal to the signature of another top player, just like they did with Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer as they close in on agreement with Ajax playmaker Mohammed Kudus.

More Details

The Gunners have been chasing Kudus foe quite some time now and had been hoping to use Thomas Partey to convince his compatriot to move to the Emirates Stadium, but it looks like they will be beaten once again by their city rivals.

According to a recent report from The Athletic, Chelsea have now made contact with Ajax for the Ghanaian. While they haven’t made an official bid yet, talks are now ongoing between the two clubs to find an agreement, while the Blues are even reported to be very close to agreeing personal terms with the player.

It’s believed that Kudus is ‘keen’ to leave Ajax this summer and has already rejected a one-year extension to his contract, which ends in 2025. The Gunners are thought to want another right-sided attacker who can offer cover and competition for Bukayo Saka. Kudus certainly fits that bill having previously played on the right flank, cutting in on his left foot just like Saka.

The Ghanaian also has something Mikel Arteta loves, he’s versatile. Kudus has played as an attacking midfielder, false nine, box-to-box midfielder and even deeper in the engine room. Kudus can play in so many roles, just like many of Arsenal’s recent signings such as Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber. Arsenal now risk missing out though with Chelsea ready to pounce, just as they did for Mudryk.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men could do it all over again with a move for Kudus, and it remains to be seen if Arsenal make a strong push to prevent that switch. But this move is not expected to affect their pursuit of Moises Caicedo.

It’s been frustrating so far for Chelsea in their pursuit for the Brighton midfielder, and the Seagulls have already rejected two offers for the Ecuadorian as they continue to stick to a price tag that is closer to €100m.

While the Blues will now focus some of their attentions on exits, they may still make another offer for the young midfielder, but they’re not ready to pay over the odds for the player as they seems to be the only interested club in him at the moment.

Meanwhile…

Italian side, Lazio are negotiating a deal with Chelsea for Callum Hudson-Odoi and are now leading the race for his signature, according to Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano. Maurizio Sarri hae asked the club hierarchy for a new winger.

They have considered several options including Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi and Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini, but they’re above their budget. Sarri has now decided to move for his former player whom he helped nurture his talent while he was coach of Chelsea.

So far, Lazio have completed just one signing, Valentin Castellanos from New York City FC this summer. But after selling their Serbian midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal for €42m, they should have enough money to conclude a deal for Odoi with Chelsea keen to sell him as part of their clear out this summer.

According to the report, talks are progressing well between the two clubs and the winger is keen on the idea of reuniting with his former coach. Hudson-Odoi only has a year left on his contract with Chelsea, so the deal would have to be an outright transfer, unless he signs a one-year extension to facilitate a loan move.
