At the age of 80, Venables, who began his playing career at Chelsea, passed away over the weekend. Venables played in more than 200 senior appearances for Chelsea after signing on as a junior player in 1958, totaling 31 goals.

Along with helping Chelsea win the League Cup in 1965, he also contributed to the team’s elevation to the top division of English football.

Chelsea commemorated Venables’s service to the team and featured a photo of him on the cover of their matchday program.

Dominic Bliss wrote: “Before El Tel, before the Three Lions, before any of the above, he was Venners and he was the jewel in the crown of a Chelsea youth setup that produced a generation of household names,” according to the club’s official website. It was his very first football home, and he will always remember it.

Additionally, Venables expressed his fondness for his time at Stamford Bridge and stated that he didn’t want to leave in an interview that Chelsea republished.

Meanwhile…

Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.

Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.

This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
