Chelsea Star Lambasted For His Profligacy As Interest In Two Marksmen Continue To Grow

After Nicolas Jackson failed to score in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, former Chelsea great John Obi Mikel has criticised the forward of not scoring enough.

Enzo Maresca’s team lost more vital Premier League points as a result of the Blues’ lack of poise in the closing third.

Having failed to score in four Premier League games, Jackson has had his worst run of the season. At Selhurst Park, he blew two great opportunities.

Mikel feels that the 23-year-old’s nine goals this season are insufficient. According to him, Chelsea needs to sign either Viktor Gyokeres or Victor Osimhen in order to contend for the Premier League championship.

“We are creating chances, we are still playing well, we are still doing the right things but we are not clinical enough, we’re not scoring goals,” Mikel said on The Obi One Podcast.

“We have talked about getting another top, top striker who can win us these kind of games, difficult games where if Nicolas Jackson is not firing on all cylinders you can give him a rest and then get someone else to come into the team and try to win us games and score goals.

“We are not clinical enough, he is not scoring enough goals. He puts himself in the right positions but then he’s not finishing, he’s not scoring enough.

“If we had Victor Osimhen or the guy from Sporting, Viktor Gyokeres, trust me, we’d still be competing for the Premier League.”

The draw against Palace, which left Chelsea without a Premier League victory in four games, infuriated Maresca. The Italian coach, however, maintained that Jackson had a strong game and refused to place the responsibility on him.
