It seems Enzo Maresca’s team was still interested in Rogers, but their rumoured move for the Aston Villa player is now expected to be unsuccessful.
Aston Villa are reportedly looking to secure the long-term future of star player Morgan Rogers by offering him a new contract, according to The Mirror.
Rogers, who joined the club from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for an initial £8 million (potentially rising to £15 million), has been the subject of an alleged £80 million bid from Chelsea.
By extending the 23-year-old’s current contract, which is set to run until 2030, Villa would significantly strengthen their negotiating position against interested rival clubs.

The rumored Chelsea interest in Rogers was puzzling, as the club already has numerous players who can play his position. Even with Cole Palmer injured, he’s still the main player for the No. 10 role, making an £80 million signing for the same position seem like a poor decision.
While Chelsea’s new owners, Clearlake Capital, are known for unconventional transfers, this one would have been particularly strange.
Furthermore, bringing in Rogers could have blocked the development path for young player Paez, whereas another prospect, Estevao, offers versatility on the wing and in midfield.
