“His leadership and experience helped to guide the Fire into this new era, and this move allows him to continue his career at a high level while pursuing a new challenge.”
A career MLS veteran, Acosta rose through the ranks as an FC Dallas homegrown talent before stints with the Colorado Rapids and LAFC.

Over 305 regular-season appearances, he has recorded 21 goals and 28 assists while building an impressive trophy cabinet that includes two Supporters’ Shields, a U.S. Open Cup (2016), and an MLS Cup (2022).
On the global stage, Acosta earned 58 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team, contributing two goals and five assists. His international resume includes a trip to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and three Concacaf championship titles.
Closer to home, Chicago is set to kick off their 2026 season on February 21 with a road match against Houston Dynamo FC (8:30 pm ET | Apple TV). Under Berhalter’s leadership, the club successfully ended a postseason drought last year, securing their first MLS Cup Playoff appearance since 2017.
