Captain Shaqiri scored his second goal of the season and assisted Homegrown midfielder Brian Gutiérrez’s team-leading third goal of the year, propelling the Men in Red to back-to-back home victory. The 2-1 loss was Houston’s first since March 2, and Chicago snapped the Dynamo’s three-game winning streak.

Shaqiri scored his second penalty of the season after referee Malik Badawi went to the spot following a foul in the box by Fire defender Rafael Czichos during a corner kick.

Shaqiri coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner from the spot, sending custodian Steve Clark the wrong way, to score the Fire’s fastest goal of the season in the tenth minute.

In the 78th minute, Shaqiri made a superb pass over the defence to Brian Gutiérrez, who was coming in behind. With the goalkeeper rushing off his line, the Chicago native unleashed a first-time shot on the bounce, lobbing Clark from outside the box for the game-winner.

On Saturday, April 13, Chicago will travel to the East Coast to face the New York Red Bulls in its only road game of the month. Kickoff at Red Bull Arena is set for 6:30 p.m.
