Chiellini On Ronaldo’s Move: ‘It Would Have Better If He Had Left Earlier’

Juventus captain, Giorgio Chiellini has admitted that the exit of former Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo really shocked the team and “would have been better if he had left earlier.”

More Details

Ronaldo joined the Serie A giants in 2018, displayed his prowess and made the Bianconeri more formidable with two consecutive league titles, one Italian Cup and two Italian Super Cup.

Having featured in two league games already in the summer, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner departed Turin after three years leaving the team in ‘shock.’

“We had arrived at a point in our relationship where Cristiano needed new goals and a team that would play for him, because when he finds a team like that he is decisive. He is proving it in these months and he has also shown it with us.” Chiellini told DAZN (via Goal).

“Here at Juventus, a programme of rejuvenation and restarting was born. If Ronaldo had stayed, he would have been an added value, but it is normal that he thought more about the present than the future.

“Ronaldo left on August 28, it would have been better for us if he had left earlier. We paid something for it, a little bit of a shock, we paid something for it in terms of points. If he had left earlier we would have had time to prepare better.”

Juventus after their poor start to the season, have found life again and are undefeated in the last nine games with a perfect record in the Champions League.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has continued to maintain remarkable individual standards at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are still searching for consistency as a collective, but their No.7 has hit six goals through eight appearances – including a couple of dramatic late winners in Champions League action.

Meanwhile…

Juventus full-back, Mattia De Sciglio disclosed he has his mind on playing for Juventus rather than the possibility of having his contract renewed.

The 29-year-old could be out the Juventus payroll as his contract ends in June next year. However the right-back sounds relaxed.

“We have not talked about the contract, it is the last of my thoughts. I am very serene, focused only on the field to give 100% everyday as always.

“The work always pays and everything will come as a consequence . I’m calm and serene, the time will come for that too.” De Sciglio revealed.
