The FIFA Club World Cup may have ended in a less than desirable way for Italian giants, Inter Milan, but it was also a valuable learning curve for their new manager, Christian Chivu who replaced Simone Inzaghi on the bench and is already planning for the upcoming season.

With the transfer market in full swing, the former Parma coach has already held two meetings with the management over the club’s transfer activities and the early indications are that he would definitely have a big say in who gets to stay and leave, even if the future of some players are set in stone.

According to recent reports, Hakan Calhanoglu is set to stay on with Inter, contrary to previous reports as the Istanbul giants had been exploring a move to bring the 31-year-old back to his homeland after an eight-year spell in San Siro, with four seasons at both Milan and Inter.

Representatives from Galatasaray have been in Italy this week to discuss potential deals for both Calhanoglu and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who spent the 2024-25 season on loan in Istanbul an while they’re almost successful for the Nigerian striker, same can’t be said for Calhanoglu.

However, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, after a meeting between the Nerazzurri and Galatasaray on Wednesday, it has become clear that there are no conditions in place for Calhanoglu to move between the two clubs as things stand as Inter seems to have fended off their interest.

Reports earlier in the week claimed that Inter were standing firm with their valuation of €30m and had also made it clear that they wanted a swift resolution to the matter, giving the player and the Turkish league champions until the end of the month to make a decision and come up with a suitable offer.

The Italian transfer expert reports that Galatasaray’s pursuit is now considered over, and that Calhanoglu is set to remain an Inter player for the 2025-26 season as things stand and Chivu remains confident that he can mend the broken relationship between Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez after a public fall out between the pair.

Also, the Romanian has told the club to keep Davide Frattesi despite the fact that the Italian midfielder was close to leaving during the January transfer window and this is according to a separate report from Sky Sport.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri will soon open contract extension talks with him even though he has been among the most frequently mentioned players during the summer transfer window. Indeed, several clubs in Serie A and abroad have shown interest in his services.

However, Inter will turn down all bids for the 25-year-old. Not only will Inter knock back every offer for Frattesi, but they will also try to extend his deal. His current contract at San Siro runs out in 2028, hence, time is not a factor. However, the Serie A runners-up are eager to show their confidence in the midfielder.

As such, they may soon open talks to renew his deal as Chivu has already confirmed his trust in Frattesi. Indeed, the new manager sees the ex-Sassuolo star as a perfect fit for his 3-4-2-1 system and would definitely flourish alongside new signing, Petar Sucic or Nicolo Barella.

In a related development, Al-Hilal have reportedly joined Inter in the race to sign Ederson at Simone Inzaghi’s request and this is according to reports from Saudi Arabia that Inzaghi’s men are keen to hijack Inter’s pursuit of the Brazilian.

Inter’s interest in Ederson is well known as he has become one of Europe’s most sought-after players and for Inter, they view him as the perfect replacement for Calhanoglu, but with a change in transfer stance, pursuing the 25-year-old may be abandoned, especially when you factor in his €60m price tag.

Indeed, even Liverpool tried to lure him away from Serie A last summer. However, the Reds’ effort to sign the former Salernitana midfielder never took off. Meanwhile, Inter had hoped to land Ederson as part of a midfield overhaul this summer but with Al-Hilal now in the mix, that’s become increasingly difficult.
