Real Madrid had their chances to extend the lead but Esther Gonzalez Rodriguez hit the woodwork and had her one-on-one chance well saved by Sandra Panos before goals from Alexia Putellas (brace) and Claudia Pina secured victory for FC Barcelona.

Claudia Pina said: “Offensively I have played inside, as I like and as the coach has asked me to do, but wherever I play I have to work hard, it is not a problem to play as a winger”

The return leg will take place in Camp Nou on March 30, 2022.
For Pina, the return leg at Camp Nou will help the team scale Real Madrid’s hurdle as she urged fans to come to the stadium to support the team.

“It will be a very special day for all of us. It would be great news if Camp Nou is full because it will help us win the game and get through the tie. I ask all the culés to come to the Camp Nou and cheer us on, so it will be easier.”

Caroline Graham Hansen says FC Barcelona Femeni showed a lot of character against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

“I think the whole team showed a lot of character today. Madrid did a really good job in the first half. They showed that they had nothing to lose and they were ready to fight.

“They deserved to be 1-0 up at half-time. In the second half, we showed our character. We showed that we are more than just pretty football.”

Real Madrid are gradually narrowing down FC Barcelona Femeni’s dominance making the El-Classico a keenly contested encounter.

“We’ve played Madrid many times and they always come out strong. We knew that if we could maybe get an early goal we would kill their mentality.

“But they came out stronger than us so we had to be the ones to fight back. It was a tough game, and credit to them for putting up a fight.”
