Written by Oluwadamilola Olaleye
Clement Lenglet is reportedly on the verge of terminating his contract with Barcelona according to multiple reports with a mutual agreement in place between both parties following a decent outing on a season long loan at Atletico Madrid. This will then allow the French defender sign permanently with Diego Simeone’s side and end any form of affiliation with the reigning LALIGA champions.
More Details
Clément Lenglet, now 29 years old first joined Barcelona in 2018 following a €36 million transfer from Sevilla as per MARCA. During his time with the Catalan giants, he collected every major domestic honor available, establishing himself as a key player in the early years but has since gone on to fall down the pecking orders.
After extended negotiations, both Lenglet and Barcelona have now mutually agreed to terminate his contract, marking the end of his spell at Camp Nou following a successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid whom he’s set to sign with permanently.

After extensive negotiations that began at the end of the season, Clément Lenglet has reached a preliminary agreement with Barcelona to terminate his contract. The agreement is essentially complete, with only a few minor details remaining to be finalised.
This development paves the way for Lenglet to join Atletico Madrid, a move that the club has been eagerly awaiting, as they needed him to be a free agent before concluding the transfer. According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Lenglet and Atletico Madrid have also agreed on personal terms, with the French defender set to sign a three-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2028.

A key factor behind the agreement was Clément Lenglet’s clear desire to continue his career at Atletico Madrid, especially after spending last season at the Metropolitano Stadium vying for a starting role.
Atletico Madrid made it clear from the outset that they would not be prepared to take on Lenglet’s entire salary. As discussions unfolded between Barcelona, Atletico and Lenglet himself, a mutual understanding emerged that the best solution was for Lenglet to leave Barcelona as a free agent.
Under contract with Barcelona until 2027 and was set to earn €16 million gross over that period, he is now set to part ways with the Catalan club having spent the past three seasons away on loan, playing for Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Atletico Madrid in that order.
While the agreement is now virtually complete, only minor details remain to be settled. This decision paves the way for Lenglet to join Atletico Madrid on a permanent basis—a move the club had been waiting to finalize until the player became a free agent. As part of the arrangement, Lenglet is set to earn a lower salary at Atletico compared to his previous earnings at Barcelona, with the Catalan club expected to cover part of the remaining amount.
