Clocks Are Running Ahead In The NWSL

A spring forward indeed: A unique trend hit the NWSL over the past few days as the league resumed Challenge Cup play following the international break — fast goals.
More Details
OL Reign set the record for the fastest three-goal tally last Thursday against the San Diego Wave, only for the North Carolina Courage to break it by two minutes on Saturday against the Orlando Pride.
Whether players aren’t fully locked in after a weekend off, or teams’ game plans are starting to come together, almost every NWSL game opened with a quick goal.

Gotham’s Nahomi Kawasumi scored in just the fourth minute against Washington, before falling 3-1.
Sophia Smith scored in the fourth minute in Portland’s match against San Diego, which the Thorns won 3-2.
Meanwhile…
The only game this week to make it past 10 minutes without a goal was OL Reign’s 2-1 win over Angel City on Sunday.
In a way, that match showed the progress L.A. has made since the Challenge Cup started, holding their own against a team who defeated them 3-1 last month.
Finishing has been at a premium early in the NWSL calendar, and too many defenses got caught sleeping as the league picked back up after the international break.
