Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala has won the men’s 100 metres final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham City on Wednesday.

Omanyala defeated reigning Akani Simbine of South Africa who clocked 10.13s to finish second. Yupun Abeykoon of Sri Lanka was third in 10.14s.
He breaks a 60-year-old jinx as no Kenyan athlete had won the 100 metres since that time at the Commonwealth Games history.

Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah has become the 2022 commonwealth games winner in the women’s 100 metres after her win in the finals on Wednesday.

The five times Olympic champion was ahead of Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred (11.01) and England’s Daryll Nieta (11.07) who took Silver and Bronze.

She’s now the third Jamaican woman behind Merlene Ottey and Sheri-Ann Brooks to win this title.
It is Thompson-Herah’s first individual commonwealth games title.
