Conor Gallagher’s England Return In The Loop
Atletico Madrid wantaway midfielder, Conor Gallagher is on the radar of several English Premier League clubs with high flying Aston Villa the latest suitor to join the chase for his signature.
More Details
The England international joined Atlético Madrid for €42m from Chelsea two summers ago with João Félix moving in the opposite direction in a €52m deal.
However, Gallagher has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, sharing minutes mainly on the left side of midfield last season and failing to cement a consistent role. The swap has since unravelled, with Félix now at Al-Nassr and Gallagher relegated to the bench.
The logic appears to be financial, with a loan exit unlikely to free up enough space within Atlético’s salary cap to accommodate a new signing. Matteo Moretto told Objetivo Atleti that sporting director Mateu Alemany is actively searching for a left winger.
Aston Villa are exploring a possible exit, proposing an initial loan with an option to buy although any move could be influenced by the future of Harvey Elliott as per TalkSport.
Villa have long admired Gallagher but Atlético are reluctant to sanction a loan unless it includes an obligatory permanent clause and a fee close to their original outlay. Given his high wages, transfer cost and limited role, Gallagher has emerged as a potential sale candidate.
According to Ben Jacobs, Atlético are currently only open to a permanent transfer with an asking price of around €30m. Manchester United have previously shown interest, but only in a loan arrangement.
