Contract Renewal: Pitso Mosimane Close To Signing Extension With Al Ahly

Written By Omolagba Oluwayemi
South African Al Ahly head, Pitso Mosimane is very close to singing a new contract with the club according to the sporting director, Sayed Abdelhafiz.
More Details
Since he joined Al Ahly in 2020, Mosimane has enjoyed great continental and domestic success with the club proving himself as arguably the best manager in Africa.
In just over a year, Pitso led Al Ahly to two back-to-back CAF Champions League victories, two CAF Super Cups, and a FIFA Club World Cup third-place finish.
Despite all that, Al Ahly and Mosimane are yet to reach an agreement regarding his contract extension, as his current deal with the team ends by the end of the season.

During the press conference after the Arab Contractors clash last week, Mosimane addressed his contract situation, stating that he needs to feel stability as the negotiations have gone on for too long.
The South African said that they have agreed on the salary but there are other points to discuss. Pitso also confirmed that he wishes to stay in Cairo and that it bothers him that the negotiations aren’t done yet, confirming that there is nothing he or the club can do at the moment.
Many club figures criticized the South African for his comments and for putting pressure on Al Ahly in such a public manner.
However, it seems the situation started to cool down and both parties are on the verge of reaching an agreement, as per Abdelhafiz.
“Mosimane staying means more trophies and achievements. The negotiations for his renewal are happening behind closed rooms between the club’s management and the coach,” Abdelhafiz told Al Ahly TV.
“It is very likely that we will sign a new contract in January. I’d say it’s 90% done.
“Al Ahly doesn’t lack anything to win the Club World Cup, we only lack success in the first and second rounds. Last season, we beat Al-Duhail, but we clashed with Bayern Munich in the semi-finals,” he concluded.
Meanwhile…
Al Ahly football director, Sayed Abdelhafiz, spoke about the Club World Cup and how they will cope without their first choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy.

Al Ahly are set to travel to Abu Dhabi to compete in the 2021 Club World Cup for the second consecutive year, after having won the CAF Champions League twice in a row.
Al Ahly will face CF Monterrey of Mexico in their first game next Saturday, 5 February.
Al Ahly might have to cope without their first choice goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shennawy, who’s currently with the Egyptian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt will compete in the quarterfinals of the tournament this Sunday against Morocco, and if they are too reach the next round, no Al Ahly player from the Egyptian squad will be able to join the team in the UAE.

Yet, if the Pharaohs are knocked-out against Morocco, it would give the players enough time to join the squad.
Unfortunately for the club, it appears that in both cases they will be without El-Shennawy, who picked up a hamstring strain during the Ivory Coast clash.
Abdelhafiz was asked how they will deal with the El-Shennawy situation and if there’s any chance he will be available come the start of the tournament.
“Mohamed El-Shennawy is a great goalkeeper and one of the best in the world, but we will make sure he’s okay and deal with the matter. And either way we have Ali Lotfi and Mostafa Shobier,” Abdelhafiz told MBC Masr TV.
“We sent an initial list of 35 players, including 4 goalkeepers, and we need to choose 23 players for the final squad. It can be modified in the event of injuries, but we will wait to see his availability.
“The team will enter a closed camp from tomorrow in preparation for the Al Ahly Bank match in the League Cup on Sunday, and then travel to the Emirates next Monday,” he concluded.
