Peru held Chile to a goaless draw in their opening group match, while Canada suffered an excruciating 2-0 defeat to Argentina.

Peru were on the back foot for the majority of their opening game, but they rarely looked in danger in what was a fairly boring match. Since 2021, Los Incas have kept a clean sheet in their last two Copa America group stage matches, dating back to 2021. The 0-0 draw with Chile extended their unbeaten run to six in all competitions

Canada showed a lot of grit and had their chances to pull off a huge upset against the world champions, even though they lost their opening match. In the first 45 minutes of the match, Canada had the most shots of any team against Argentina (7 shots), according to Opta. Jesse Marsch’s team have conceded 10 goals in their last six games.

Head To Head

There has only been one previous meeting between the two nations, which Peru won 2-0.

Key Performers

Gianluca Lapadula: The striker who was born in Italy has become one of Peru’s main goal getters. He posseses a danger to Canada’s defence because of his quickness and skillful finishing within the box.

Alphonso Davies: Any defence has to fear the Bayern Munich left-back. His speed, dribbling and accurate crossing of the ball allows him to be ever-present in attack especially on the flanks.

Though they don’t have as much attacking depth as the Canadians, Peru’s formidable defence and experienced strikers have shown they can produce magical moments when it matters most.
